BLIP URBI 1
URBI R/C lets you use an "off the shelf" digital camera for Remote Controlled Aerial Photography. It is compatible with most common R/C systems such as Futaba, JR, Hitec and similar. There is no wiring or soldering required, it connects to the R/C Receiver and controls the digital camera via the USB connector.  The interface uses a standard servo style connector and uses a very small amount of power (much less than a normal servo).

With an increasing number of high quality yet inexpensive digital cameras available, it is now possible to achieve photographs of professional standard.

Surveys, searches, mapping, counting, monitoring can all be performed from suitable altitudes.

Once you have an URBI interface connected to an R/C receiver, you can choose from a range of cameras to suit your requirements.  Your decision will be based on quality, weight and price.

For a minimum setup you only need an URBI interface and a cheap digital camera to get top quality 4 megapixel photographs. A camera such as this can capture an image every 3 seconds, and it a 15 minute flight can take hundreds of photographs before landing. This is a very small camera and can be carried by most R/C aircraft (Fixed wing & Helicopters).

For a pro setup, we'd recommend at least a pro-consumer camera. Such 10 Megapixel or more camera will require a larger craft to carry the extra weight, but will take photographs very quickly and of such a high quality that you can zoom in and see every detail.  This sort of setup can incorporate a video transmission system to transmit the video from the camera to the ground, so the operator can see what they are photographing.

For a top of the line setup, we'd recommend a digital SLR.  You'll need a decent sized model with a gimbal to mount the camera.

All the above systems work just the same. The URBI interface works in a similar manner whichever camera is chosen, and you can change cameras at any point in time.
