Review - Phoenix Model Trainer 60 size nitro plane

Phoenix Model Tiger 60_1

“Wow…………..what a beauty”, was my first thought in mind when I saw Phoenix model Tiger 60 plane low wing at Singapore Hobby Supplies. The photos on the large box show the plane covered with very vibrant and unique design color coverings on both the top and bottom.

Upon opening the box, I was captivated by the true colors and fine detail of the coverings.  It was indeed a eye opener for me.
The feeling of having Tiger 60 in your hands is definitely different from the photos you see on the box.
If you think the photos on the box are eye catching, feeling the works of art of the Tiger 60 in your hands is another experience.

It is an ARF model complete with fuel tank, clevises, horns and control link rods, landing gear, necessary screws, wing bolts, spinner and an easy to understand instruction booklet. You just need to purchase engine, propeller, radio gear, servos, fuel and glue. Standard size servos are used and require seven/eight numbers making the entire start up cost reasonable for such a big bird.

Again her factory build quality and coverings are second to none and even engine right thrust and down thrust are pre-set up at factory. Ailerons, flaps, rudder and elevator control surfaces are all also factory installed. All I have to do is to install the clevises, horns and control link rods.

Servo mounting precut out are already done at factory, just drop in the servo and mount them. Her final built and balance were ‘spot-on’ according to the instruction booklet, and on her maiden flight, she flew with very little trim and fly “hands off control sticks” literally.

She did loops, rolls, stall turn and knife edge (I was skeptical initially because of her slim fuselage side profile) but she handle it with ease. She was faster overall comparing to Phoenix Trainer 60 (another plane I own). Reaction time was quicker and snappier than the Trainer 60 as she was of a different design but can be calm and tame just simply by reducing your throttle and with the added design function of flaps. When used correctly, it can literally slow her down to walking pace!

She exhibited no nasty surprises during the flight that a novice like myself cannot handle, and always have the ability to show her “Tiger” side of things by flipping switches on my radio to higher throw settings for a wild ride.

Congratulation Phoenix Model for giving me another well build plane at a reasonable price and look forward to your other models for similar quality and build as well as ease of flying. Thank You also to Singapore Hobby Supplies for bringing in another quality product.
