Winged Shadow Thermal Scout

It takes experience to understand and detect thermal in flying glider, and yet seeing the glider soar higher and higher by the invisible force of the thermal is truly exhilarating.

For me, the Thermal Scout has helped me gain a better understanding of thermal, as it notifies me each time the model enters lift. There are flights when I did not expect thermal, and the Thermal Scout notify me of one, small enough to keep my glider - OK Model Citron (1.1m wing span, flying weight of 250g) up in the air for some time.

The Thermal Scout is easy to install and just takes a few minutes to get everything going - it is putting the Thermal Scout between the receiver and the rudder servo. Winged Shadow Thermal Scout Review-2
Whenever the Thermal Scout senses the plane lifting, the sensor will bank the rudder. I have also setup an extra channel to switch on and off the Thermal Scout.  So whenever the sensor alerts me of a lift, I will switch off the Thermal Scout and continue to circle the area of lift so that the plane will not keep banking.
For motor gliders like my Citron (in the picture above), you must remember to switch off the Thermal Sensor before powering up. Otherwise you will find the glider banking side to side as it climbs - an undesirable situation for a glider.

Overall, the Thermal Scout performs as it is described by Winged Shadow Systems - 'The Simple Way to Better Soaring' and offers great value for the price.
